NOOE KOMAKO, a church minister, has encouraged men to accompany their spouses and children to church and pray together.

Komako was the main guest speaker at the African Methodist Episcopal Church (AMEC) conference held in Theunissen recently. He emphasised that family had to come first then the chain should spread to the outside world to balance life.

Komako, who is also an employee at the Free State Department of Education, stated that as God was head of the church, so man was head of the family, adding that a man should choose a good name over silver and gold.

“Private sin has a tendency of destroying families, while good private and public life will win one a good legacy,” said Komako.

“Your generations will be scolded for the sins you committed as head of the family. Keep commandments and abide in love for your next generations to reap the rewards.

“Train your children in order that they may live according to your standards.

“God will prevail despite pain. The more pain, the more gain.”

Parallel to Komako’s significance of families bonding, Refilwe Molelekoa, a Social Work student doing her final year at the University of the Free State, highlighted child abuse challenges and observing children’s rights.

“Children’s rights must be observed. They need to be given their privacy and their independence,” said Molelekoa.

“Communication between children and their parents must reign supreme. They need to be protected against sexual, physical and emotional abuse, as well as child labour.

“Children also need to respect their parents’ rights and dignity.”
