MARRIED couple Benny and Maria Motseki have released their debut album. The 15-track album is called Afrophobia and is rich with beautiful reggae sounds.

The CD showcases the couple’s passion for reggae and for music.

Like all reggae musicians, this couple sings about everything from politics to social issues to love.

“We sing in English and Sotho. The music on the album is reggae and there is also a bit of gospel. In the track Afrophobia we highlight the problems caused by the recent Afrophobia that broke out in the country,” Benny told Express.

“One Day is a song about someone who has dreams, but doesn’t know how to achieve those dreams. I must say that every song on the album carries a different message,” he said.

To market their music, the couple performs at taxi ranks. They couldn’t be happier with how they have been received by fans.

“We are overwhelmed with the support and love that we receive from fans everywhere we perform. We are really grateful to people who buy our CD,” said Maria.

“We are trying to build a name for ourselves in the music industry. We are not perfect, but are happy the way things are panning out so far. Just like other musicians who are trying to establish themselves, we face the same challenges,” she said.

The album consists of tracks such as Somebody Help, Remember Me, Wa Ntshuna Ha monate, Yoggo and Reggae Train. The CD sells for R80 per copy.
