LOYAL Express readers have again responded positively to a call for help from a community member.

A fortnight ago, Express published the story of 13-year-old Thandeka Jolingana who was in desperate need of a wheelchair, helmet and adult nappies.

Since the story was published, Express has received several phone calls with offers of assistance from ordinary and corporate Free Staters who have offered to help with anything from a spare wheelchair to nappies or any other item she might need.

Speaking in Isixhosa, Nontombi Jolingana (52), Thandeka’s mother and primary care-giver, expressed her happiness at the offers of help.

“I am so happy that I cannot even find the words to express my joy,” she says.

As in the past when Express has made a clarion call to its readers for help, the office of Mangaung’s executive mayor, Thabo Manyoni, once again joined other ordinary people to help where they can.

“When the mayor saw this article he said he wanted to help and instructed me to find a wheelchair for the little girl,” White Mohapi, manager in the mayor’s office, says. The girl has never been to school
