Help shelter provide for the needy

2015-04-30 16:55

SINCE 2002, Bloem Shelter for Women has been providing care for those in need.

This independent organization, in addition to providing shelter, aims to provide opportunities for individuals at the shelter to engage in programmes which aid them in achieving life transformation.

Bloem Shelter is an inter-denominational; multiracial organisation the goal of which is to serve the community of Mangaung.

Bloem Shelter for Women is a Christian project for women, women with children, the elderly and families.

Many of the individuals are placed at the centre by the SAPS, Social Welfare, Childline, Correctional Services, hospitals, churches and members of the community. Some arrive here out of their own volition.

At Bloem Shelter, there are approximately 40 to 50 individuals being taken care of per day.

They have access to washing facilities, a place to sleep and meals.

In addition to their basic needs being met, there is also medical attention provided as well as any other specific counselling required by any of the individuals (e.g. counselling regarding drug and alcohol addiction as well as pastoral, spiritual or psychological counselling, which are provided by volunteer professionals).

With regard to the children, their ages range from newborn babies to 18-year-olds.

Children are assessed to identify their schooling level and are then enrolled in school.

This shelter does, however, have some needs.

A major need is that of non-perishable food and basic toiletries.

Any donations are welcome.
