Heritage Day celebrations

FICKSBURG. – It is that time of the year again when all the roads will be leading to Ficksburg for the annual Free State Heritage Day celebration.

Thousands of Free Staters are expected to attend this year’s ceremony, which will be held at the Ficksburg Show Grounds starting at 10:00.

Ficksburg, close to the Lesotho border, is known for hosting the Heritage Day celebrations and the annual Cherry Festival.

These events attract many people in the province, from other provinces and even from neighbouring countries, specifically Lesotho.

Expected to attend the event are the Executive Council of the Free State provincial government led by Premier Ace Magashule, the Free State legislature, representatives from the Kingdom of Lesotho and the Free State House of Traditional Leaders.

Mathabo Leeto, MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation is expected to give a keynote address on the day of the celebration. The programme of the day will showcase different cultural groups through traditional food, music and attire
