Library marketed

THE recently-observed South African Library Week saw the Motheo Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) College in Bloemfontein use the annual event to market its services to students and decision-makers.

The Library and Information Association of South Africa (LIASA) chose the week of 14 to 21 March to observe the annual South African Library Week (SALW). This year’s theme was Connect @ your library.

The theme resonates with the belief that libraries connect people to each other, to knowledge and information, to print and electronic resources, to technology and professional support.

Library manager, Rhonda Bezuidenhout, said: “Libra-ries must take the lead in being active community partners towards developing an informed and educated nation.

“This means providing access to information about health and hygiene, econo-mic empowerment, poverty eradication and education in desired spaces that foster lifelong learning and know-ledge exchange.”

During the week, students at the Bloemfontein Campus Resource Centre were invited to attend DVD presentations and free books and stationery were handed out.

A special display was created to inform the visitors of the national week’s activities. A total of 514 students visited the centre
