Licence backlog addressed

2015-08-26 06:00

I WOULD like to take this opportunity to applaud the MEC for Transport, Safety and Liaison, Martha Bartlett, for her swift action to address the backlog on the issuing of taxi licences in the Northern Cape.

This is what we mean by service delivery to the people.

She has placed a moratorium on the issuing of new and the transferring of taxi licences with effect from 1 June 2015 to wipe out the backlog at the department. I can allude to the fact that this is yielding excellent results.

I am a member of the Kimberley Taxi Association and applied for my permit in April this year.

Before the moratorium was in place, I struggled with the process of finalising my permit and it prohibited me from embarking on any business ventures in the taxi industry. I received my permit on 6 August and already signed new contracts for my business.

I am confident that we in the taxi industry, together under the leadership of MEC Bartlett, will excel and ensure that we provide an affordable, safe and reliable transport service to our people in the province.

I am excited and looking forward to what the future holds for me.

Thank you, MEC and your team. I salute you
