A 22-YEAR-OLD MAN from Britstown was convicted in the De Aar Magistrate’s Court for assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Jonathan Gransville was arrested on 18 October 2014.

According to the police, the accused and his girlfriend were embroiled in a heated argument at their home.

“In a fit of rage, he lashed out at his girlfriend with his fists.

“He missed his shot and instead hit his five-month-old child on his head. The woman was carrying the child,” Col. Priscilla Naidu said in a statement.

She revealed that the incident had resulted in the infant sustaining a fracture to his skull.

“The accused was arrested and charged. He was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment suspended for five years on Monday, 20 July.”
