‘May God bless you’

2015-06-17 06:00

HOPALONG CASSIDY,

Kroonstad:

I AM a 74-year-old woman who walks on crutches with great pain and difficulty.

On 5 June, the wheels of my car were clamped at the Panorama Plaza Mall.

The woman in charge said I had to pay R200 to have the wheels unclamped. I offered to pay by cheque, but she refused. I then said I would pay the following day, which was also refused.

Though I showed her my crutches, she commented that many people who walked on crutches outside could walk perfectly well once they were inside the shops. She said I needed a sign indicating that I was handicapped displayed in my car.

It was getting past 17:00 and dark and I was scared.

I asked the woman to telephone my doctor, who would confirm that I was handicapped, but she said that was not up to her.

I found my bank auto card and went to draw money to pay the fine. Another woman came up to tell me that an unknown gentleman had paid it for me.

I was dumbfounded by this generosity and told him I was drawing the money – however, he refused to accept it.

I asked him what his name was. I think he said it was Duminy. Then he just walked away.

The second woman put her arms around me and hugged me.

By now I felt quite tearful and really needed that hug.

Thank you, kind lady and thank you, Mr Duminy.

May God bless you and yours abundantly
