THE Kolomela netball and soccer teams were amongst the 27 netball and soccer teams that participated in the inter-mine tournament.

The tournament was hosted by Petra Diamonds in Lime Acres on 19 and 20 September.

Kumba Iron Ore, a business unit of Anglo American, believes in employee well-being and encourages employees to participate in sports events.

The Kolomela Mine netball team was one of 12 netball teams to participate.

In the first games, they beat the team of PPC Lime by 30-17.

The winning Kolomela team then played against Tshipi for a place in the semi-finals and won the game by 39-4.

The two qualifying netball teams for the second day, saw Petra Diamonds and Ulco chalk up the highest score against their opponents.

The soccer tournaments, where 15 soccer teams participated, saw the Kolomela soccer team facing the Petra Diamonds soccer team in round one.

This challenging match led to a penalty shootout, during which Kolomela was defeated by Petra Diamonds.

Black Rock was the overall winner of the soccer tournament with Tshipi and Petra Diamonds in second and third place respectively.

The final day of the tournament saw the Kolomela netball team coming up against Petra Diamonds.

Kolomela netball team managed to beat Petra by 12-2 and qualified for the finals against Ulco.

After a very tough match, Ulco beat Kolomela with one point (6-5), and achieved gold.

The Kolomela netball team was subsequently awarded silver for second place and bronze went to Petra Diamonds for third place.
