HARMONY SPORTS ACADEMY football player Teboho Mokoena could be the next big thing after signing a professional contract with Premier Soccer League (PSL) giants Super Sport United. The budding star will start his professional career in the junior side of the Absa PSL three-time champions.

Mokoena impressed Super Sport talent scouts at the recent tournaments of the South African Football Association (Safa) South African Breweries (SAB) inter-provincial and the international u.19 football staged in Pretoria and Durban, respectively.

Mokoena captained the Free State u.21 winning team that beat Mpumalanga 3-1 to scoop the inter-provincial title for the second time in a row. His sterling performance earned him a lucrative deal with Super Sport.

The deal sees the youngster also begin the journey to follow in the footsteps of his father, Alexis Didi Motaung, who died in 2010. The departed stalwart played for Free State Stars and had a lengthy stint at the now defunct Hellenic Football Club, which was one of the top clubs from Cape Town.

Kwanele Kopo, Super Sport United’s Academy technical head, said Mokoena will be promoted to the senior team of the Pretoria outfit. He said the youngster was already part of Super Sport junior side currently competing in the MultiChoice Diski Challenge, a reserve league of all 16 clubs playing in the elite division of PSL. Kopo said in terms of their plans the youngster will upon completing his gr.12 final examination in November, immediately move to Super Sport.

Ensuring Mokoena fits well into the team’s fold, Kopo said they have arranged for the player to train with Super Sport’s junior team with the first training during the forthcoming school holiday.

In the meantime, Mokoena continues training at the Harmony Sports Academy under the watchful eye of mentor Pitso Mokoena. Super Sport has beaten premiership opponents Bidvest Wits in signing the young lad after he impressed the latter team during trials conducted recently.

“The Super Sport deal is a bonus to me. I went to the two competitions not expecting anything so big.

This is an opportunity I’m going to cherish. I attribute all this to good guidance of coach Pitso, who never stops emphasising the importance of discipline and hard work to succeed in life,” said the 18-year-old Mokoena.

The young lad originates from Bethlehem and has featured in schools competitions, Sanlam Kay Motsepe u.19 and COPA Coca-Cola u.15 competitions.
