Police hold prayer day

ON 29 September, the Northern Cape police celebrated National Prayer Day at Roodepan with the aim of bringing together the police, the community and different sectors to call upon God and seek His guidance, protection and intervention in police killings.

The prayer day came a few weeks after the national office held a commemoration service for the fallen heroes in the South African Police Service (SAPS).

It was noted with sadness that this year alone about 60 police members had been killed in the line of duty.

The deputy provincial commissioner, Maj. Genl Hilda Mohajane, acknowledged the Community Policing Forum (CPF) as the structure that brings the police closer to the community.

She said the CPF, together with the community, could help police resist the evil that leads to the killing of the police.

Mohajane said the words spoken by the president at the national police commemoration service X that the death of one police officer was one too many X were very true.

She said, “I know how dangerous the situation is out there, but our members must use the skills they have and equipment provided to them to protect themselves.”

She ended by thanking God for the gift of life.

She prayed that He should protect the police members as they continued to do what the Constitution of the country had mandated them to do, which was to serve and protect
