BETHLEHEM. – Tumelo Mokoena (26) of the Meyerskop farm near Bethlehem has released his first gospel album.

The ten-track album titled Jeso o nale nna, which translates as “Jesus is with me”, is selling like hot cakes.

It features songs like O mpoloke Jeso, Jwalo ka naledi. It is available at R30 each at the music store in High Street, Bethlehem, as well as at Ha Ndabile.

Mokoena said he had chosen this title for his album because of things that had happened in his life. Jesus has always been with him. He would have become involved in drugs and other bad things, had it not been for Jesus.

“I grew up in a house where the atmosphere was tense. Things were bad, but I was always on my knees, praying to God for his protection. I am still here today and I believe I have a long way to go in the industry,” Mokoena said.

He said singing was his calling. He started siging at funerals, churches and municipal gospel festivals.

“One of my best moments was last year when I shared the stage with the likes of Hlengiwe Mhlaba, Solly Mahlangu and many other artists who have made their mark in the industry.”

Mokoena, who is unemployed, said he used the money he received from performing at the Dihlabeng Gospel Festival to record his album.

He said he looked up to Sfiso Ncwane and he believed that one day he would share a stage with him.

“I have never met him, but one can see he is very humble.”
