RISING footballer Vuyo Junior Mantjie has been named the SuperSport Let’s Play and Express Goldfields andamp; NFS’s Sports Star of the Month for April.

He was chosen as the best out of the nominations received.

Vuyo, a learner of the Harmony High School in Virginia, has been chosen for his consistent performance, which saw him selected not only for his school’s team, but also for the South African junior national team, representing the country internationally.

Vuyo was part of the South African u.17 boys’ team which won a silver medal at the 2015 African Youth Championship after losing to Mali. Staged under the auspices of the Confederations of African Football (CAF), the youth championship was held in Niger.

Vuyo featured in the team which now focuses on preparing for the Fifa u.17 World Cup in Chile to be staged from 17 October until 8 November this year.

This talented player has proven himself a consistant performer. Bearing testament to this, he featured in the schools championship the past two years and helped his school to win the championship provincially.

In 2014 Vuyo featured in the Engen Champ of Champs competition in Soweto.

He was also part of the South African u.17 team which played an international friendly against Lesotho and Botswana.

Vuyo was likewise part of the national team that saw South Africa qualify for the first time for this year’s u.17 African Youth Championship in Niger.

In 2013, Vuyo featured in the South African Schools Football Association (Sasfa) u.16 national tournament in Durban. Thereafter he was selected for the Coca-Cola Sasfa national tournament held in Cape Town.

Vuyo lives by his motto: Nobody ever frowns on sweat, so work hard, and never ever give up.
