Road closed due to construction

THE Mangaung

Metro Municipality, through appointed contractors, has started with the upgrading of the St George’s Street and First Avenue Intersection. The Metro says in a notice that, due to construction work, the entrance to Att Horak Street has been closed from Monday (14/09) and will re-open in February 2016 when it is anticipated the project will be completed.

There will be no through-traffic towards Att Horak Street from St George, there will also be no right and no left turn into Att Horak Street from First Avenue.

There will be no right turn access for through-traffic into Att Horak Street from Betoger Avenue.

Provision will be made for pedestrian movement by means of a walkway.

Motorists are hereby advised to make use of alternative roads to reach their intended destination.

This project consists of the re-alignment of the signalised intersection of St George’s and First Avenue in Bloemfontein. The new layout of the intersection also requires the widening of the existing bridge structure.

The existing structure spans over the existing storm water channel. A maintenance ramp leading into the storm water channel will also be affected. Numerous high volume services are present on site and will be affected during the construction process.

These road-works form part of the executive mayor’s plans since coming into office in 2011 to rehabilitate roads in the area of Mangaung.

The Mangaung Metro Traffic Department as well as the Law Enforcement Division are on board and ready to assist in making the flow of traffic as trouble-free as possible
