THE Bothaville Magistrate’s Court sentenced two armed robbers to 15 years’ imprisonment each, while six suspected accomplices were let go.

The two men, Mojalefa Chabe (32) and Fanie Nobanda (37), were convicted and sentenced for armed robbery at a house.

Nobanda and Chabe were part of a group of eight armed robbers who held a couple hostage in Bothaville on 22 September 2013. The court found the pair guilty of armed robbery and sentenced each to 15 years in prison.

The other six accused armed robbers were acquitted of the charges.

Armed with a firearm, the eight men robbed the couple of two laptops, two plasma television sets, two cellphones and a black Chevrolet Trail Blazer 2013, in which six of them drove off.

Two of the suspects then forced the woman to accompany them to her parents’ home, in an attempt to loot the house. While on their way, the woman threw herself in front of a passing vehicle and the suspects fled.

Chabe and Nobanda, along with their six accomplices, were busted following an intensive police investigation.

The couple’s vehicle was later found burnt in the Jouberton Cemetery in Klerksdorp.
