Rubbish sickens us

2015-09-09 06:00

DORCAS GROOTBOOM, Bronville, Welkom:

As a concerned resident of Bronville, I would like to see an investigation being launched into the illegal refuse dumping and burning of rubbish by the Community Works Programme (CWP) near our residences.

After several letters in which we complained about having to constantly inhale smoke caused by the burning of rubbish, this is still continuing. Worse, these CWP workers are working without proper protective clothing, masks or gloves as was depicted in Express Goldfields andamp; NFS edition (26 August). I am sure the government does make provision for such protective items. Whoever the CWP co-ordinator is, he or she is smiling all the way to the bank to save money meant for the purchasing of protective items for these workers.

We have also, on numerous occasions, requested that the rubbish dumping sites be moved to an area which would not affect any residents.

These dumping sites are a health hazard. We, especially our children, suffer from lung diseases such as bronchitis, pneumonia, sinusitis and allergies.

Who cares? Please! This is a cry for help. We cannot tolerate this state of affairs any longer
