SAPS team in action

THE South African Police Service (SAPS) Northern Cape men’s soccer team is competing in the SAPS National Male Soccer Championship that is currently being played in Mossel Bay in the Western Cape.

The team has already set their sights on winning the trophy which they last won 11 years ago in 2004. Under the tutelage of head coach Const. Molatodi Rantoetse and his assistant, Const. Tsepisho Motseothata, the team has been hard at work since Sunday (23/08) and will keep going until Saturday (29/08).

Before their departure to the championship, Rantsoetse affirmed that the team was in good form and that it intended pulverising its competitors. He described the team as young, energetic and strong.

Team manager, Const. Lucky Mpulo, extolled the virtues of the Diamond Boys, as they are affectionately called by their fans.

“We have an 80% chance of winning this championship. We have a quality team of young and fit players as well as a brandnew technical team, who have been in cluster SAPS soccer teams for a very long time. They possess the experience and are hungry for success,” he said.

Having watched the team in action during one of their practice sessions, Col. Priscilla Naidu added: “We definitely concur with the coach. As the adage goes ‘the will to win is not nearly as important as the will to prepare to win’.”
