Schools compete

THE Let’s Play Physical Education Challenge, targeting children aged 10 and 11 in primary schools, is in full swing.

The competition determines the fittest primary school per province, which then competes for the national title.

The winning school will receive a grand prize worth R1,1 million: an all-purpose, all-weather multi-use sports court to be built at the school. The nine provincial winners will each receive R10 000 worth of sports equipment and a physical education package worth R40 000.

Schools in the Free State competed last week to determine the top ten schools in the province to contest the provincial semi-final. The top-ten schools per province which have qualified for the provincial semi-final will compete to decide the provincial champion to qualify for the national leg. The national final is scheduled for 5 November.

The primary objective of the challenge is to reinforce the instruction of curriculum-oriented physical education and to promote physical activity in all schools. Let’s Play coaching teams target various schools per day to run the Physical Education Challenge
