QWAQWA. – Thabo Motaung (31), a gospel artist who hails from the Makwane Village in Qwaqwa, is taking the music industry by storm.

Having made his debut a few years ago, this vocal singer has already released three albums.

Since he has joined the industry, Motaung has never looked back. He has made his name a brand and he is confident that soon he will be rated among the best.

Motaung told Express Eastern Free State that music had been an unplanned career choice, as he had wanted to be a lawyer when he grew up. Due to financial difficulty he could not pursue this and ended up in the industry.

He describes his journey as a tough one.

“I have experienced many things in a short space of time. I have been cheated, as well as helped,” said Motaung.

“Three years ago I released the album Lona ba emeng lebopong. To be honest, it didn’t produce any results. I then released the second one, Jeso ke karabo. That one worked wonders.

“Lately I have been promoting my third album, Mhlaba niyenge, where I featured my wife, Madisemelo Motaung. We however struggle to promote it together, as she is always at work. She is not a full-time singer like me.”

Motaung is hard at work doing the promotion, and will be found campaigning at various venues
