HOUSE OF HOPE and Bacha against Drugs are joining forces to stage a big soccer tournament featuring schools within the Goldfields region.

The event aims at empowering youth and fighting the scourge of drugs to which many youth have fallen victim.

The organisers are targeting eight local school teams from towns within Matjhabeng – Welkom, Virginia, Hennenman and Odendaalsrus.

The participating clubs will compete with each other on a knockout basis to determine the overall winner and runner-up. The winner will receive a floating trophy.

Harry Mokole, spokesperson of the organisers, said plans were afoot to host the one-day tournament on 5 September at the Zuka Baloyi Stadium in Welkom.

He said they are planning to feature boys’ teams from eight schools from the aforementioned towns of Matjhabeng. Mokole said this year’s will be the first edition and they were planning to stage the tournament annually.

He said the tournament aims at uniting the youth of the area of Goldfields to fight the scourge of drugs and alcohol abuse.

“We are inviting businesses to support us by sponsoring the tournament and also local schools to register for the tournament,” said Mokole.
