Stabbing lands man in court

A MEMBER of Vatos Lagos, a notorious gang in Thabong, is set to re-appear in the Welkom Magistrate’s Court on Thursday (16/04) facing a murder charge.

The accused, the 31-year-old Samuel Sello, also known as “Madondo”, first appeared on Tuesday, 31 March.

The accused allegedly attacked and stabbed a fellow gang member, 51-year-old Malete Joseph Sehloho, also known as “Bricks”, during a fierce fight arising from an old grudge regarding a woman who had a love affair with both men.

The altercation took place at the local Mzoba Tavern in Thabong on Saturday, 28 March.

The victim reportedly died in the ambulance which was transporting him to a local hospital in Welkom.

Sgt Mamello Mokhuoane, spokesperson of the Thabong Police Station, said the deceased had sustained severe stab wounds during the attack involving the two gang members.

The deceased had three wounds to the back and one each to the head and neck.

Mokhuoane said the fight was apparently over an old grudge the two men had had regarding a woman which they both had a relationship with.

According to Mokhuoane the tension seemed to have reached boiling point and the men began attacking each other with knives.

“Sello came to the police station to open a case of assault causing grievous bodily harm against Sehloho,” said Mokhuoane.

She said Sello had been arrested after police had received confirmation that the victim had died in the ambulance on his way to hospital
