FREE STATE soccer fans could wait much longer before they see Jomo Cosmos play their home matches in the province.

Following their promotion to top flight football, Cosmos confirmed that they would play all their home fixtures at the Fezile Dabi Stadium in Tumahole, Parys.

Cosmos public relations officer (PRO) Abe Selebano said Ezenkosi would be temporarily relocating to Potchefstroom in the North-West province.

Their new home, the 15 000-seat Fezile Dabi Stadium in Parys, is not ready to host Premier Soccer League (PSL) matches until the end of October.

“Presently, the Fezile Dabi Stadium does not meet all the PSL requirements. Therefore we are taking our games to the Olen Park Stadium in Potchefstroom. We are waiting for the Ngwathe Local Municipality to re-do the whole pitch and put in a new turf,” Selebano told Express.

“As soon as the municipality is done with that process and the PSL has approved the use of the stadium, we will move our home matches to Parys. But Olen Park will still remain our alternative venue,” he said.

Cosmos’s move to take their matches to the Free State surprised many people, but Selebano believes his club has made a great decision to move out of Gauteng.

“Honestly there are are too many PSL teams in Gauteng and we believe in building a strong support base in the North-West and Free State.

“Our target is to attract no less than about 8 000 people to the stadium when we play Category B matches against teams such as Supersport (United) and Chippa (United).

“When we play Category A matches against clubs such as (Kaizer) Chiefs and (Orlando) Pirates, we know that we are going to have a full house.

“We are currently visiting schools and taxi ranks to lobby support from the local people before the new season starts,” explained Selebano.

Cosmos will kick off their league campaign with a tricky match against Maritzburg United at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Monday, 10 August, at 17:00.

They will play their first home match against Golden Arrows at Olen Park on Sunday, 23 August, at 15:00
