Stars aiming to up their game

BETHLEHEM. – Rock-bottom Free State Stars will be hoping to turn their back on a bad start to the Absa Premier League when they come up against Chippa United from Cape Town on Saturday (12/08) at the Goble Park Stadium.

Ea Lla Koto did not start on the right footing, losing three league games consecutively. They lost their first game to MP Black Aces by 1-0 at Goble Park, before losing 4-0 to the defending champions, Kaizer Chiefs, and 2-1 to Ajax Cape Town.

That stint saw the management of the team axing Kinnah Phiri and his assistants, Themba Sithole and Floyd Mogale.

The Malawian manager, Phiri, was at the club for less than a year after taking over from Belgian, Tom Saintfiet.

Ernst Middendorp, the former Bloemfontein Celtic mentor, was called in to guide the team from the relegation zone and his test comes as early as this coming Saturday. However, Middendorp and his players know that playing United will not be easy, as the team has proved to be a force to be reckoned with under the guidance of Roger Sikhakhane. United is currently on seventh position with four points after three league games. They lost one, drew one and won one. This team recently managed to hold Chiefs to a goalless draw with only ten men on the field after one of their players was sent to take an early shower
