THREE people died on the R385 road, about 15 km from Postmasburg, when the taxi they travelled in collided with an unknown vehicle.

The taxi, a blue VW kombi, was travelling from Beeshoek en-route to Olifantshoek when it allegedly was in a collision with another vehicle on Friday (30/10) morning.

Indications are that the taxi collided with a truck.

However, no other vehicle was to be found on the scene.

According to Lt. Sergio Kock, the male driver of the kombi was travelling on the Olifantshoek gravel road.

His passengers were one male and two females.

According to Netcare 911 paramedics, they received a call regarding the accident at around 06:00.

When the paramedics and the emergency services arrived at the scene they found the crumpled remains of the taxi on the roadway with the injured still trapped in the wreckage.

“After the injured person had been triaged, medics found that the three other persons died due to the extensive injuries that they had sustained.

“The person who survived had been in a serious condition,” stated Chris Botha of Netcare 911.

Kock said the survivor was a female passenger who was transported to the Postmasburg hospital for medical attention.

A case of culpable homicide was opened.

The police in Postmasburg requested that anyone with information regarding the accident, must please forward it to them.

More information on the accident can be forwarded to Det. Const. Bongani Landu on 073-253-1306.
