THE Thabong Police Station in Welkom has bid farewell to one of its core managers, Col. Deon Ernst Sevenster, whose service to the police spanned more than 30 years.

A farewell function was held at the station on Tuesday (31/03). Ill-health had forced him into retirement, Sgt. Mamello Mokhuoane, spokesperson of the Thabong Police Station, said.

Sevenster started his career as a constable in 1984, worked his way up the ranks from detective constable and was promoted to colonel in April 2010.

He had been detective commander at Thabong since 2009 and was one of the managers who had helped build the station to reach the status of number one station in the country, a position it had retained for the last two years.

Under his leadership the Thabong Detective Services had on numerous occasions gained first position on the performance chart on the level of Brigadier Station.

“We made a good team and today Thabong is the best station because you believed in us as your pillars and as management,” said Sevenster.

Acting detective commander, Lt. Col. Mzamo Nyamani, said Sevenster would be remembered for his mentorship, good leadership skills and for surrounding himself with hard-working members.

“He was always at work and hands on. He motivated us as detectives and was always positive, even in bad situations,” said Nyamani
