Tournament to unite youth

HOUSE OF HOPE and Bacha against Drugs are appealing to local businesses to support their one-day football tournament to be staged on 5 September in Welkom. The competition will feature eight schools within the Goldfields region.

The sponsorship of a floating trophy and medals X gold and silver X is needed.

Harry Mokole, spokesperson of the organisers, said plans to host the tournament on 5 September were on course. Four secondary schools have registered to participate. These include Welkom Technical, Welkom High, Riebeeckstad High and Lebogang.

“We are appealing for the support of companies in sponsorships, while also encouraging schools to register for the youth development tournament. We are planning to host the tournament annually,” he said.

The hosting venue is still to be confirmed, as the Zuka Baloyi Stadium could not be secured.

The tournament aims to empower youth and fight the scourge of drugs X to which many youth have fallen victim.

The organisers are targeting eight local school teams from towns within Matjhabeng – Welkom, Virginia, Hennenman andOdendaalsrus.

The participating clubs will compete against each other on a knockout basis to determine the overall winner and runner-up.

According to Mokole, this tournament seeks to unite the youth in the Goldfields.
