TWO men who cycle to and from work daily are planning to form a club of which the members will compete in races.

The pair of Seooe Molise and Joseph Mokotjo have been cycling to their place of work in Welkom’s central business district each day for almost three years.

They have been using their bicycles as a means of transport in the wake of high costs of living, notably drastic fuel price increases.

Both men cycle approximately 10 km daily to and from their place of work.

This task, also a fitness exercise boosting self-discipline and a healthy lifestyle, has inspired them to take it to another level. They want to organise men who cycle to and from work to unite and form a club in the Goldfields.

Mokotjo says the aim of forming a club is to compete in cycling championships.

He says the effort of cycling to work and back home near Bronville in Welkom saves him about R500 monthly, enabling him to meet other needs of his family.

“We are challenging fellow cyclists to look beyond the task of cycling to work and back, and to consider taking it to competition level,” says Mokotjo.

A meeting set to start at 12:00 will be held on 11 July near the Thabong Community Centre (Phillip Smith) in Thabong, Welkom, where interested parties will discuss the possibility if uniting cyclists and forming a club in the Goldfields.
