Abandoned baby recovering

2015-12-09 06:00

A NEWBORN infant who was abandoned at a dump site is slowly recuperating at the Mafube District Hospital. The infant was found in the Namahadi township in Frankfort in the North Eastern Free State.

According to the police the baby was found on Monday, 30 November, at 06:30 by a woman who was emptying her dustbin and noticed some strange movement.

The woman then carefully scrutinised the moving plastic bag only to discover a newborn infant with an intact umbilical cord.

Police and emergency services were alerted and the infant was rushed to the Mafube District Hospital.

According to police spokesperson, Sgt Mmako Mophiring, the police are still investigating the matter.

“There have been no reports made at this stage.

“Another issue is that, even if community members have information on the matter, they will not speak to us because they are too afraid.

“It is also early stages in the case, but I am certain the police will find something,” Mophiring told Express.
