A group of 25 matriculants from the Free State who received good results in Mathematics and Physical Science have started studying towards their dream professions.

This after each of the 25 recipients received a scholarship worth R286 000, courtesy of the Siyandisa Foundation Scholarship Programme, to enrol at universities of their choice.

All the recipients obtained between four and seven distinctions in their 2017 matric results.

“These learners qualified for scholarships by attaining an average above 85% at the end of Gr. 11,” Cikizwa Bacela, Siyandisa’s marketing manager, said.

“At the beginning of their matric year in 2017, their parents or guardians were exempted from paying tuition at their respective schools.”

The top three candidates also received an additional R50 000 each.

They are Phole Mofokeng (Mampoi Secondary School), Refilwe Ester Selepe (Rantsane Secondary School) and Gidion Lekgotla Mashiane (Tsebo Secondary School).

Mofokeng attained 100% in Mathematics and Physical Science and now studies Actuarial Science at the University of Cape Town (UCT). Mashiane, who achieved 97% in Physical Science and 91% in Mathematics, also enrolled himself at UCT to study Actuarial Science.

Selepe, who achieved 100% for Mathematics and Physical Science, enrolled herself at the University of the Witwatersrand to study BSc Biological Sciences.
