Access to nature reserves free

2018-10-03 06:02

The Northern Cape Department of Environment and Nature Conservation will once again host its annual nature reserves open week.

According to the department, the initiative is all about bringing people together to experience what the reserves have to offer, and about “connecting people to nature”.

This year’s nature reserves open week runs from Friday (28/09) until Sunday (07/10).

The department has clarified that free gate access is granted to day visitors only, and that access to accommodation facilities and other tourist activities is not part of the free offer.

The nature reserves open week has become an annual event hosted in the September and October school holidays to celebrate the province’s heritage and appreciate the value of the natural resources. The initiative also benefits local people and serves as a platform to educate and create awareness on conservation issues.

Participating reserves are: the Doornkloof Nature Reserve (Colesberg), Goegap Nature Reserve (Springbok), Oorlogskloof Nature Reserve (Niewoudtville) and Rolfontein Nature Reserve (Vanderkloof).
