The case of attempted rape against a 24-year-old male student of the University of the Free State (UFS) is expected to be heard on 3 October, during which he is set to apply for bail. The case was postponed for further investigation. Lt Col Thabo Covane, provincial police spokesperson, said the suspect was arrested on Tuesday, 3 September, in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a 24-year-old female student. As the suspect was not asked to plead to the charge against him, his identity cannot be revealed. The victim and the suspect are reportedly no longer having a love affair. According to Covane, the incident occurred after an event held on the premises of the university. “After the event, the students had a party at the Villa Bravado hostel. The victim attended the party with her friends,” said Covane. “The complainant, who resides at a female hostel, alleges that she wanted to return to her hostel in the early hours of the morning of 1 September, but her ex-boyfriend forced her into his room. Once inside, he forcefully kissed her and pushed her onto his bed.”He said the complainant apparently managed to escape when someone knocked on the door.in the event the suspect opened the door upon someone knocking at the door from outside.
