NTOMBIFIKILE DIKI (25) briefly appeared in the Hopetown Magistrate’s Court on a charge of drug dealing.

After her court appearance on Thursday (06/10), she was released on bail of R2 000.

Her appearance follows her arrest on the evening of Tuesday, 4 October, after a tip-off received from a member of the public.

According to Capt. Olebogeng Tawana, the tip-off lead the police to a house in the Gou Trou squatter camp at Steynville in Hopetown, from where it was suspected that the resident was dealing in dagga.

“The police reacted promptly to the tip-off and went to search the shanty belonging to Diki.

“The police found three big plastic bags filled with dagga.

“The three big carry bags and four plastic bags filled with dagga weighed 17,628 kg and have an estimated street value of R35 256.

“The bags were found hidden inside the shanty and were confiscated,” revealed Tawana.

The cluster commander, Brig. Nomahlubi Sofika of the Pixley ka Seme Policing Cluster, commended members of the Hopetown community for showing solidarity in the fight against crime in their neighbourhood.

“Fighting crime begins with each and every individual in the community,” she said.
