Murder suspect Itumeleng Brian Motati, who stands accused of murdering wife Jeanett Moekoa-Motati, is out on bail after a brief stay in police custody.

The accused spent about a month in the Pelonomi Hospital, where he was treated for, amongst others, burn wounds that he had sustained during the alleged burning of his spouse on 23 September.

He was admitted with his wife, who later succumbed to severe burn wounds incurred during the horrendous ordeal.

Motati was granted bail upon his appearance in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on 17 October. However, it is unknown what the bail conditions are.

The accused is expected to reappear in court on 1 December on charges of arson and murder.

Motati was arrested on 23 September in connection with the death of his wife. The couple has three children, aged two, six and ten.

According to reports, the suspect had a heated domestic dispute with his late wife, which led to the alarming incident of her allegedly being burned alive in broad daylight in the flat the couple had been renting.

The accused had allegedly wrapped up Jeanett’s mouth and entire body with plastic and thereafter set her ablaze in the flat the couple had been renting.
