FICKSBURG. – A 26-year-old “apostle” was arrested by the Ficksburg police after he had been accused of raping a 61-year-old grandmother on Thursday (05/05) at Meqheleng near Ficksburg.

According to Capt. Phumelelo Dhlamini of the Communication Services of the Ficksburg police, the victim was asleep in her bedroom in her house in Zone 8 at approximately 22:00.

Apparently, while she was sleeping, the victim’s son and a friend of the son were drinking beer in the house.

“After a while, the victim’s son left the suspect behind in the house to buy more beer.

“It is further alleged that the suspect went to the woman in the bedroom and told her that he is an apostle and will pray and heal her aching feet.

“Instead, he raped the woman and told her not say anything to her son.

“The suspect then ran away.

“The woman contacted her neighbours and was assisted by them to call the police.

“She then pointed out the suspect and he was arrested,” Dhlamini said.

He said the suspect would appear before the Ficksburg Magistrate’s Court soon, facing a charge of rape.
