Assault at school investigated

2018-04-04 06:04

The Department of Education investigated a case of assault at the Bothithong High School near Kuruman in the John Taolo Gaetsewe District.

According to Geoffrey van der Merwe, spokesperson for the department, a Gr. 11 learner assaulted her teachers as well as the principal of the school.

Van der Merwe says a disciplinary hearing took place on Monday, 19 March.

“As a department we will not tolerate lawlessness on our school premises, where the lives of innocent learners and educators are placed at risk.”

The outcome of the disciplinary hearing is that the learner was referred to a social worker for anger management.

The learner also received a written warning.

The department furthermore advised that each teacher should adopt a learner and that there should be regular contact between parents and teachers.

Capt. Sergio Kock, police spokesperson, says no criminal charge has been laid. The incident took place on 6 March.
