To create continuous awareness on HIV/AIDS, and to encourage people to get tested, know their status and take treatment, the Sol Plaatje Municipality’s Social Development Unit lead an awareness walk from the civic centre to the city hall on 1 December to commemorate World Aids Day.

The newly appointed Sol Plaatje Mayor Patric Mabilo joined the walk.

The day is observed by the unit annually as part of its Workplace HIV/AIDS Programme.

Partners of this initiative is Lifeline, Mobile HIV Counselling and Testing (HCT), the National Association of People Living with HIV and AIDS (Napwa), LoveLife and the Masiphile Men’s Forum.

A candlelit ceremony was held to demonstrate solidarity with those who are living with HIV/AIDS while being positive and continuing with the fight against HIV/AIDS.
