Battle for place in last 32

2018-10-31 06:02

Botshabelo-based football side Lazio FC will look to pull an upset against Bethlehem-based outfit Super Eagles when they square off in the Nedbank Cup elimination fixture on Saturday (03/11).

The match is to decide the team to get a slot in the last-32 group stage of this prestigious tournament in South Africa.

The match is advantageous to Lazio – given it will be staged in its home town of Botshabelo at the Kaizer Sebothelo Stadium.

Kick-off is at 15:00.

The two clubs are in different leagues administered by the South African Football Association.

Lazio campaigns in the SAB League while Eagles are in the ABC Motsepe League.

The two clubs qualified for the knockout stage of the competition after winning their matches in the preliminary group stages.

Eagles book their place when they beat Mangaung Unite by 4 – 1 earlier this month, while Lazio did so when they beat Virginia Academy by 6 – 5. The two teams won via penalties.

This is the second time that Lazio reached this stage of the tournament. The Botshabelo side was eliminated last year by Bloemfontein Young Tigers, who went on to represent the Free State in the last-32 group stage of the competition.
