Local beauty queen Dipolelo Hou continues her journey as the torchbearer of the Miss Plus Size pageant internationally. She is among the 18 finalists to compete for the coveted 2019 Miss Plus Size Universe crown at the global final to be staged in St Vincent and the Grenadines, a southern Caribbean island state in the West Indies. The crowning is set for 20 April. The other finalists are from Jamaica, Brazil, Switzerland, Spain and India. Hou was shortlisted for the seventh Ms Plus Size Universe pageant after success winning the title of Ms Plus Size South Africa 2017 and being crowned as the Ms Plus World Ambassador at the Ms Plus Size World pageant 2018, held in Atlanta in the USA in July.Hou has since become the face of the Plus Size beauty pageant, which is for curvy contestants, married and unmarried. She was not deterred by a car accident which occurred ahead of her journey to the USA, where she represented the country at the Ms Plus Size World final. Hou is buoyant about getting another chance to represent South Africa at another prestigious global beauty pageant. “The pageant has exposed me to opportunities and enabled me to gain vast experience in pageantry. The Ms Plus Size Universe pageant is an opportunity for me to portray the beauty and ability of plus-sized contestants and foster the importance of self-value,” said Hou. “It is an opportunity to become a voice of change in my community by addressing social challenges and proving plus-sized women are equally capable of making a positive difference.” She attributes the strides she has made to the expertise by Samuel Chief Leeuw, director of Ms Plus Size South Africa.
