Big prizes up for grabs in race through township

The Galeshewe Athletics Club will host the 2017 Gale­shewe half-marathon in the Galeshewe township in Kimberley on Saturday (12/08).

The race, that starts at the Galeshewe Stadium at 07:00, features a 21,1 km half-marathon, a 10 km race and a 5 km fun-run and will take runners through the streets of the township.

There is prize money of up to R1 000 for the first male and female racers to finish, as well as R750 for second place and R550 for third place.

The winners of the 10 km gets R500.

The race is run under the rules and regulations of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), Athletics South Africa (ASA) and the Griqualand-West Athletics Federation (AGW).

Clearly visible licenses are to be worn on the back and front, while temporary licenses need to be worn on the front and must be clearly visible.

No timing chips are required for this race.

Medals go to all finishers.

Enter on Friday 11 August from 17:00 to 18:00 at the Galeshewe Stadium in Phakedi Street and between 05:00 and 06:30 on the day of the race.
