Biker cycles to success

A mountain biker from Bloemfontein achieved success in the Spur Schools MTB League Inter-Schools final.

This event was held in Magaliesberg on 3 October.

Franjo Hattingh, a learner of Grey College, finished third overall in the sub-junior boys’ category.

Ruan Jansen van Vuuren of the Hatfield Christian School in Limpopo and Bertie Anderson of the Magalies Special School in Gauteng claimed second and first position respectively.

The competition covers all nine provinces and takes place from May to October each year.

Since its inception in 2009, the competition has seen over 70 000 entries and participation by over 500 schools.

This year, 470 entries from the Free State was attracted, and these cyclists completed 1 187 laps and 8 880 km for the season.
