Six body builders represented the Northern Cape at this year’s Bodybuilding South Africa (BBSA) national championships, which took place at the Civic Centre in Rustenburg.

The team members, who competed against 300 others, managed to place in the top ten of their line-ups.

Simphiwe Smith, who has been participating in the sport for over 20 years, scooped a gold medal in the category for masters under 40 years (75 kg), while team mate Eurika Dreyer came in fourth place in the category for womens’ beach bikini.

The other team members, who all achieved a place in the top ten of their respective categories, are:

Amory Ras (womens’ beach bikini), Oscar Troy (senior men classic body building), Natasja Ras (womens’ bikini fitness under 40) and Antonio Thomas (senior men body building).

The team, mostly self-funded, is grateful towards local businesses for support to reach the competition.
