Free State boxer France Ramabolu (29) is set to get the biggest break of his decorated career following his win over Angolan Cristiano Ndombassy (29).

He stopped his contender by knockout in the third round of the 12-round contest presented at the Mangaung Indoor Sports Centre on Friday (27/07).

The two were fighting for the vacant International Boxing Federation (IBF) Africa welterweight division title, with the winner guaranteed a slot in one of the top divisions in the world.

By triumphing over Ndombassy, the Free State warrior improved his chances of global success.

The IBF is one of four major organisations recognised by the International Boxing Hall of Fame (IBHOF), which sanctions world boxing championships globally.

The other major divisions are the World Boxing Association (WBA), the World Boxing Council (WBC) and the World Boxing Organization (WBO).

“The IBF division is one of the major divisions where boxers get to compete for major titles in the world,” said Lebo Mahoko, local promoter of the Dream Team.

“There is an opportunity to fight for cash incentives in the IBF, as with other major divisions.

“It is prestige for all boxers who get ratings in one of these major divisions.

“It is my mission to ensure that boxers get such opportunities to compete for decorated titles and make their dreams come true at the prime of their career.”

Mahoko believes it is all in the hands of Ramabolu to make the best of opportunities at his disposal.

He staged the boxing spectacle over the weekend with the additional aim of marking the celebrations in honour of late former president Nelson Mandela’s birthday centenary.

The late statesman would have turned 100 on 18 July.
