TK PROMOTIONS and the Department of Sport and Recreation South Africa (SRSA) will bring live professional boxing to the Northern Cape over the weekend.

A tournament will be staged at the Mittah Seperepere Convention Centre on Friday (26/02) at 18:00. Entrance is free.

Fikile Mbalula, minister of sport, along with dignitaries from his office and the Northern Cape Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, are expected to attend the event.

Promoters and SRSA have confirmed that busses will be available at Roodepan Primary, Roodepan Med and Homevale to ferry the spectators to and from the venue from 15:00.

In Galeshewe, this will be done at Eliot Hall, the Mayibuye Centre, the Recreation Hall and Batho Hall.

In Greenpoint, the gathering places will be Greenpoint Stop, Garden Court (for the Sol Plaatje University students), Boys High (for the boys high learners), and Pescod via Floors.

Former South African champions Israel and Frank Khonkhobe, Bushy Oliver, “The Fighting Priest” Nxawe and others are among those expected at the event. The main bout and some of the supporting bouts will be broadcasted live on SABC channels on Friday at 21:00, while all other under cuts will be screened every Friday on SABC at 22:30.

Archie Jack, president of the Northern Cape Amateur Boxing Organisation (NCABO), said the staging of such a tournament was a sign of the revival of boxing, especially professional boxing, in the Northern Cape.
