Boxing match celebrates Mandela’s centenary

2018-07-25 06:01

Local boxing promoter Lebo Mahoko of the Dream Teams Gym believes the International Boxing Federation (IBF) Africa clash on Friday (27/07) is a fitting way of marking the Nelson Mandela centenary celebrations. The late statesman would be 100-year-old if he was still alive.

“Mandela was never celebrated as an amateur boxer of note, so this is a fitting celebration of the icon who sacrificed years of his life to fight for freedom,” Mahoko said.

France Ramabolu (29) from Virginia in the Free State and the Angolan Cristiano Ndombassy (29) will compete in a bout for the IBF Africa title on Friday.

Mahoko said the bill honours sacrifices made by Mandela to promote sport sportsman to the fore.

Tickets are available at the gym, and cost R250 (VIP), R150 and R50 (learners).
