Boy’s killer sentenced

Justice has finally been served for brutally murdered Mpho Sehloho (5) of Botshabelo.

This after the Bloemfontein High Court convicted and sentenced his killer, Joyce Sehloho (19), to 18 years’ direct imprisonment. The accused was sentenced on 4 March after the court found her guilty of murdering Mpho on 17 January 2018.

The accused remained in custody for the duration of the trial that lasted a year and one month.

Sehloho was arrested a day after the boy was found murder in Wepener, where she was apparently trying to hide out.

The accused was arrested after the police found incriminating evidence after searching her bag in which two towels with blood stains were found.

“Collected evidence was sent to the forensic science laboratory. Results proved that blood found on the floor in the bedroom and on the towels was that of the deceased,” said Sgt Martin Xuma, police spokesperson.

The accused was thereafter transported to Botshabelo to stand trial for murder.

The police reported that Mpho’s body was discovered in a refuse plastic bag. It had multiple stab wounds and his throat was slit open. The refuse bag was found in F Section, Botshabelo.

Mpho’s brutal murder left his mother, Makhano Sehloho, reeling with disbelief and had the community of Botshabelo in shock.

The day the little boy was murdered he reportedly had started formal school. He was first reported as missing by his family on 17 January when he was last seen playing in the street in Section F.

Mpho’s gruesome murder came to light on 18 January after community members discovered a body inside a black refuse bag near a house not far from the deceased’s home.

Xuma said the court also declared the accused unfit to possess a firearm.

The murder case was assigned to Det. Sgt Lefa Letlojane.

Col Mosiuoa Raliopane, Selosesha acting cluster commander, has applauded the investigating officer for a job well done to ensure that the deceased boy gets justice.
