‘Brave’ robber in prison

2019-06-12 06:02

Business robber Mafereka Paulus Tjeketsi (39) from Bloemfontein was sentenced to ten years imprisonment by the Ladybrand Regional Court.

He was sentenced on Tuesday (11/06), ending the two year trial after his arrest in May 2017.

He was found guilty of robbing a Hobhouse businessman of goods valued at R7 000 and of an undisclosed amount of cash. Items stolen included two cellphones, airtime vouchers and cigarettes.

Sgt. Martin Xuma, police spokesperson, said Tjeketsi, who was not armed with a gun or knife, robbed the business in broad daylight.

He stormed into the shop shortly after the owner had opened for business in Lipelaneng.

Tjeketsi overpowered the owner and his helper and he tied up both with shoes laces and later fled the crime scene on foot.
