2016-04-27 06:00

THE bail hearing of the five suspects arrested in connection with the brutal killing of the late soccer legend and tavern owner Alfred “Chencha” Helepi is expected to continue in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on 5 May.

All five suspects, two women and three men, have been kept in custody since their arrest earlier this month, while the Hawks continue with further investigation.

Two suspects are Lesotho nationals and include a woman who was employed at Helepi’s tavern. The other three are South African.

The suspects are charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder, armed robbery and theft of a motor vehicle.

Three of the suspects allegedly killed Helepi on 29 March at his home in Phahameng.

One of the suspects reportedly fatally shot the deceased three times, once in the upper body and twice in his legs, while the other two suspects held up employees at knife-point.

Upon murdering Helepi, the suspects reportedly fled the crime scene with a vehicle belonging to the deceased.

The victim was attacked and murdered in the bathroom at his home.
