Burglar gets hefty sentence

2018-04-18 06:00

Convicted burglar Itshokolele James Poonyane (21) from Zone 1 in Selosesha was sentenced to 18 months in prison by the Thaba Nchu Magistrate’s Court on 1 March.

He was found guilty of housebreaking and theft when he stole movable property, estimated at R12 380, on 5 December 2017. This included a mini hi-fi, a bicycle wheel, coffee mugs and cutlery. He broke into the house when the owner was on night duty.

Poonyane was arrested in January after the police received information, after which some of the stolen items were recovered.

The police encourage residents to mark their property and write down serial numbers to easily identify it if stolen and to not buy stolen goods.
