“Winning this award affirms that Maiktronix is still relevant. Business evolves rapidly and having a different set of judges endorsing this means we are on the right track,” said Greg Majeng, chief executive officer (CEO), at the Eskom Business Investment Competition Awards Ceremony, held on 4 September in Johannesburg.

Maiktronix, a Kuruman-based manufacturing company that specialises in the fabrication of steel and aluminium products as its core business, was named the first runner-up in the manufacturing category.

Secondary to manufacturing, the company supplies and installs surveillance security and automation systems.

It was rated second in Sowetan’s Top 100 Young Bosses during Youth Month in 2015. The management of the company was also invited to be part of a delegation at the South Korean small and medium aluminium plant business seminar in Seoul in 2016.

Maiktronix achieved ISO 9001:2015 quality management system certification effective in June 2017, making it the first aluminium manufacturer in the Northern Cape to achieve this.

The company was established in 2011. Greg and Tsholofelo Majeng started by manufacturing steel gates from their home garage and then moved to a bigger rental space. This year the company has 26 local employees.

In the next five years Maiktronix plans to become a hi-tech manufacturing company that supplies windows and doors to national hardware chain stores and have an accredited aluminium academy to train manufacturers.
